The Closet

I hate shopping.

Bless the internet, because I have been able to avoid live shopping for years.

But the situation in my closet has changed all of that, at least temporarily. I have been segmenting clothes in the closet into categories:

Those I won't see again for a very long time.
Those I can squeeze into now for the last week and will likely want sooner after the party is over.
Those that have opportunity left in them for maybe a few more weeks and am willing to stretch and destroy as necessary.

The latter category is seriously lacking, thus requiring a visit to the maternity store yesterday.
With Mr. W in tow, I was able to quickly whirl through the store, try on as many pieces as I could, and escape with a few versatile options. But not before the salesperson tried to sell me more pants, lotions, a college savings plan, some restaurant thing, and who knows what else. Plus, in order to make my damn purchase, I had to register my name, address, phone number, and due date. WTF???

Fortunately, I think I did enough size and style analysis that I won't have to go back and can internet shop once again as needed.

  1. that is too funny! I can just imagine you whizzing around the store with the desperate shopkeeper running behind you!!

Hope you are well? I think about you often, wishing you calm growing vibes

  2. Gah - maternity stores are so much more high pressure than regular ones - but I am glad we have that issue!! The last time I was in one, I saw a "glam kit" to help women get through labor looking good - I was like WTF the last thing on my mind is going to be my bloody lip gloss!!

  3. I'm getting down to a much smaller available wardrobe myself. Can't really button anything, although the fit everywhere else is so far remarkably still good. So if it's got a generous elastic waistband (and with my apple-shape many of my pants and skirts do) I still have about a month of clothes I can still wear. I hope, because I really hate clothes shopping.

You are much nicer than me, if I had some clerk trying to oversell me that shiite I'd start to get snippy. And registering with all that personal info? No way. I'd walk out and tell them they lost their commission.

Grrrrrrrrrr. Things like that just tick me off for some reason.

On better news, congrats on making it to the 2nd trimester! Woo hoooooooooo!

  4. I think I went to the same store. They also handed me a bag of "goodies" (read: mostly ads to buy more stuff) along with my purchase. But - wait a minute - you got Mr. W to go with you?! Woowwwwwwwww. Lucky you!

  5. Did you get to try on a pregnant belly? (Besides your own, of course) You know how they have the 7 mos. belly, etc.? I went with my sister to shop for maternity clothes..those kinda creep me out. :)

I'm so happy for you and your growing babies!

  6. Ugh -- maternity stores are the worst, what with the aggressive upsells and the college savings plans! It does get better, though, once you get a little more confident in what you like/need, and have some basics to build on.

I've had some really good luck with Old Navy maternity clothes -- almost everything they have is online, and it's pretty cheap. You have to return stuff my mail, but they make it relatively easy.

  7. i don't like to shop either and as of yet....still have not actually purchased anything in a shop with the word maternity in it.....instead, i have frequented target for tshirts (that i love) and nordstrom for some awesome jeans that I ordered based on prepregnancy size and they fit :) the maternity shops still make me nervous, the women are so all over you, the one time i tried she was so amazed at how small i am....i had to leave :)
glad you can avoid it in the future, be prepared to hear from them often!
